வான் மழை நீர் நம் உயிர் நீர்

ஒரு ஊரில் ரங்கன் என்று ஒரு விவசாயி இருந்து வந்தான். அவன் கடுமையான உழைப்பாளி.  அவனுடைய நிலத்தில் மிகவும் ஆழமான கிணறு இருந்தது. அவன் அந்த கிணற்றில் வான் மழை நீரையும் சேகரித்தான். அதெற்கென சற்று பணம் செலவழித்து வீட்டு கூரை மேல் விழும் நீரையும் குழாய் வழியாக கிணறு சென்று சேருமாறு அமைத்து இருந்தான்.

ஊர் மக்களையும் அவ்வாறு செய்யுமாறு சொன்னான். அவர்களோ எதற்கு வீண் செலவு என்று அந்த மாதிரி அமைக்காமல் விட்டனர்.
அவனுடைய ஊரில் வறட்சி ஏற்பட்டது. எனவே அந்த ஊர் மக்கள் அனைவரும் கஷ்டப்பட்டனர். ஊரில் உள்ள அனைத்து மக்களும் சேர்ந்து அரசனிடம் உதவி கேட்போம் என்று முடிவு எடுத்தார்கள்.

அரசன் அவர்களை அழைத்து உங்கள் ஊரில் பருவகாலத்தில் மழை பெய்ததா என்று வினவினான். மக்களும் பெய்தது என்று சொன்னனர். பின்னர் ஏனிந்த வறட்சி என்று கேட்டான் அரசன். ஊர் மக்கள், கடும் வெயிலினால் கிணறுகள் வற்றி விட்டதாக கூறினார்.

மழை நீரை நீங்கள் கிணற்றில் சேமிப்பது இல்லையா என்று கேட்டான் அரசன். மக்கள் தாங்கள் இதுவரை மழை நீரை சேமித்து வைத்தது  இல்லை என்றனர். அரசன் அவர்களிடம் " வான் மழை நீர் தான் நம் உயிர் காக்கும் நீர்" நீங்கள் அன்று உங்கள் கிணறுகளில் மழை நீரை சேமித்து இருந்திருந்தால் இன்று இந்த தண்ணீர்ப் பஞ்சமே வந்திருக்காது. 

இனிமேல் நீரின் அவசியத்தை உணர்ந்து சேமியுங்கள். உங்கள் ஊரில் உள்ள ரங்கன் என்னும் விவசாயியின் தோட்டத்தில் உள்ள கிணற்றில் நிறைய மழை நீரை சேமித்துள்ளார். அவர் சேமித்துள்ள மழை நீரில் இருந்து உங்கள் ஊரில் அனைவரின்  பயன்பாட்டுக்கும் தருவதாகக்  கூறி உள்ளார்.  இனிமேல் மழை பெய்தால்  சேமிக்க மறக்காதீர்கள் என்று அறிவுரை கூறினான் அரசன்.

மக்களும் அதை உணர்ந்து அரசனுக்கும், ரங்கனுக்கும் நன்றி கூறி ஊர் திரும்பினர். அன்று முதல் அவர்களும் மழை நீரை சேமிக்க தொடங்கினார்கள்.

Once there was a village named Santhana. Due to lack of rainfall, the village was suffering of water scarcity problems.There was neither water to drink nor to cultivate food. People in the village arranged for a meeting and they decided to move to another village.

Surya was one farmer in that village. He is a confident and hard working person. He told the village people, " We will dig a new well in the land near our village temple. It will give us water. Everyone should come to dig the well"

The villagers thought of making an attempt to get water. They started digging the well. Two days passed, they dug up to fifty feet. There was no sign of a single drop of water coming from the well. Five days passed, they dug up more than seventy five feet. Till then, no water came. The village people became sad and they told that there will be no water in the well. So, they wanted to move to some other village. Surya asked them to dig the well further more. They refused to do so. He started digging the well alone. People in the village discouraged him. "Surya is a fool, no sign of water there in that well"

Ten days passed. He alone dug up to 150 feet. He was digging and suddenly when he hit the earth, spring of water splashed on his face. He became very happy. He called up all the villagers. They were also happy to see water gushing up from the well.

They felt sorry for discouraging him. He replied them that hardwork will be rewarded some day. People in the village were very happy and lived without problems for water thereafter.

Moral: Hard work will be always rewarded. Try, try and try again until you succeed.

Respect the Elders

Once there was a village named Singapuram. There lived a carpenter named Kasi. He had a younger son who is five years old. His name was Vasu. Kasi’s father Ramu was too old and he also stayed with them in their house. Kasi began to think that his father is of no use to him since he became too old and unable to do any work. Kasi always spoke angrily to his father. Ramu was old man and he remained silently whenever Kasi spoke in anger.
One day, Kasi gave food in a clay plate for his father to eat. Being too old, Ramu was not able to hold the clay plate properly. He dropped it down and the clay plate broke off. Kasi became so much angry and scolded his father. Vasu observed this.

The next day , Kasi gave a new clay plate. He went to work. When he came back, he was angry to see the new clay plate also broken into pieces. He scolded his father badly and warned him, “Hey old man, if you break the next clay plate also, there will be no food for you and you have to leave the house”. Vasu was listening to his father’s words silently.

Next day, in the evening, he came back to home after his work. He saw his son Vasu doing some work with his carpentry tools. He became surprised to see this and happily he went near him, Kasi asked Vasu “ What are you doing my son?” Vasu replied “ Dad, I am making a wood plate for you. When you become old, I will give you this wood plate so that you will not break it and I do not have to send you out of the house”

Kasi realized his mistake on hearing his son’s words. He felt sorry for hurting his old ageed father. He apologised to his father for his mistakes and his angry words. Kasi, Vasu and his grandfather went into home to have a nice dinner together.
